Jim Cooper is a senior ceramicist based in Dunedin, New Zealand. His ceramics may take the shape of a figure, animal or plant they are are all colourfully glazed and generally form part of unique installations of works.
Continually pushing the boundaries of ceramics and taking clay it its absolute limits, Coopern has developed a fresh and dynamic approach to the medium. With their playful and whimsical appearance, Cooper’s installations disguise the challenges and technical finesse required for their construction.
Cooper won first place in the Norsewear Art Awards in 2006. In 2009 Jim Cooper was the joint winner of the prestigious Portage Ceramic Award in Auckland, New Zealand.
